Living on the beach … A special spyglass villa on Amelia Island Plantation

What is your idea of a perfect getaway from the cold winters?

What conjures up memories of summertime fun better than a  beach vacation?

After Dave and I sold our marshfront home, we purchased an oceanfront condo thinking we would be splitting our time between Florida and the North Carolina mountains.   Staying within the Omni Amelia Island Plantation was important to us as this is where we were married, moved to when our children were in middle school, built a marshfront home and where we plan to stay.

After extensive renovation, the condominium is perfect for our lifestyle.  We love the ease with which we can lock up when ready to head to the mountains.  We love our gorgeous beach view… seeing the ocean, sand dunes, sawgrass vegetation… the surf, calm in the summers with southeasterly breezes and sometimes riled up during the few Nor’easterns we get in the winter.

I especially like seeing the land tying in with the ocean and sky.

We have extensive balcony space with spectacular ocean views from every room.  A summer supper on the balcony is a treat especially when coordinated with an Omni fireworks display during 4th of July festivities.

On New Years Eve, sitting on the balcony with a blanket wrapped around me, nothing is better than watching  fireworks timed perfectly to ring in the New Year.

Changes are expected in any New Year and in 2017 we are getting ready to do it again!

It is with sadness that Dave and I decided to sell our beautiful villa at the beach.  We are purchasing his mother’s and father’s marshfront home. (The one that is just down the street from our previous home!)

This home has been the family gathering place over the years.  Our children grew up visiting their grandparents in this home…sharing vacations with cousins…going on boat rides, golf cart rides…rollerblading…enjoying many fun meals… and celebrating family times together.

We are sad to be leaving a special place, but happy to be moving into another special home.

Since we will be selling our home I thought you would like to see how we chose to live with the beach, the view, the art, the kitchen and dining….so important to my testing of recipes and entertaining friends.

Our art collection is very important to Dave and me.  The center painting above the TV (placed perfectly for our homegating parties) is a Dennis Campay original featuring downtown Fernandina Beach.

Deciding how to integrate my paintings into our rooms, became a priority and collaboration with Julie Johnson and Benjie McEntyre of Julia Hall Interiors.  At her suggestion we added the cabinetry and lined the surface with shiplap.  This makes it very easy for me to swap out paintings as I add new pieces.

Integrating new design trends with our existing artwork, antiques, vintage and new furniture was a fun challenge.  We used lots of neutrals in the paint color and furnishings allowing our colorful art collection to take center stage.

Whether waking up to a glorious sunrise or watching an equally glorious moonrise, the beach never gets old.

Kathy, how lovely is your villa! You can turn anything into beauty with the flair of your mind, eyes and special gift you have of just knowing what should be!! Good fortune smiles at you as you prepare for your last (lol) homestead. It will be extra special for all concerned as you all spent many days & nights at Grandma & grandpas.
I wish you well and can’t believe you got all that house’s stuff into your villa and now have to furnish a house again!
Good luck and miss you. ❤
