Thank you for all the birthday wishes! And now Sunday Funday….Rattan and Wicker Part II…
We talked about wicker and rattan light fixtures in my previous post…
Rattan and wicker are showing up in interior design, mixing and matching with traditional furnishings or in eclectic mashing with more modern design.
Rattan furniture is solely made of rattan material, a natural plant fiber, known for its durability and flexibility. Because of its flexibility, chairs with curved arms are made from rattan.
Wicker furniture can be made with a combination of material, both natural and synthetic.
Bamboo is a hard cane and cannot be curved, seen mostly in chests, tables and cabinets.
I’ve always been a fan of mixing in bamboo pieces in my home and have collected small cabinets and table for years.
Now on to chairs and settees. I enjoyed seeing the different patterns and overall density of the woven chairs. Some light and airy, others dense and full bodied…mix and matched with traditional styles or paired with contemporary art pieces to create a more modern approach.
The thing that struck me the most with this trend…It adds an organic element to any room…And watch the pattern play!
Enjoy the photos below…from Pinterest and Instagram
painted wicker chairs and a wavy patterned console
The same wavy wicker console table featured in the Southern Living Idea House on Amelia Island! 2 down the hall…love it!
Rattan ottomans on a porch…also from the Southern Living Idea House…
Come celebrate with me. I’ll save you a seat at the table…maybe a wicker seat!
