TRENDING IN THE HOME: BOTANICAL PRINTS AND BIRD PRINTS

I love a good Gallery Wall in a home…especially ones with flowers…I love painting flowers!

I have worked with Julie Johnson and Benjie McEntyre, of Julia Hall Interiors,  on the art placement in several of my homes.

Recently Julie and Benjie have been working with my sister-in-law, Clara, (Aunt Vern) on some major decorating changes in her home.  While discussing what to place on a dining room wall to coordinate with a new updated chandelier, new table and newly recovered chairs,  and a pretty spectacular Norman Rockwell print on one wall, Julie suggested using botanical prints on the other wall.

I thought hmmm…botanical prints…you mean like the old fashioned ones? and how do they (many of them antiques) work in today’s modern home?

I had recently visited the Southern Living Idea House on Crane Island, Amelia Island and remembered the fun game room with updated botanical prints, feeling contemporary with their white frames.

I started noticing lots of examples on Instagram.

When Lee Radziwill, sister to Jackie Kennedy and one of Truman Capote’s swans, passed away in February of this year, Instagram was saturated with photos of Lee, her fashion sense and her sense of style in her many homes.  I saw several photos of her collection of botanical prints, first in her Paris apartment and then in her New York penthouse apartment.  I felt this could influence the botanical trend…Enjoy these photos from Instagram…

TODAY…New York Thursday October 17 Christie’s is auctioning The Collection of Lee Bouvier Radziwill-style icon and muse to Warhol and Capote.”  Read the overview and bowse the lots here.

I love the reflection of the botanical prints in the mirror.  And check out these chairs…think they are in the auction.

Have you seen enough????Well I was on a mission after Julie mentioned the Botanicals.

On a trip to Cashiers, NC I visited Toby West Antique Store.  He has lovely antiques and the most amazing collection and display of botancal prints.  Please excuse the next photos as it is difficult with an iPhone camera in a store to capture all the walls covered with prints.

Now I love my one of a kind, large paintings that fit a space perfectly…but

I also love a Gallery Wall arrangement of artwork…It doesn’t have to be botanicals, it could be several smaller pieces you’ve collected over the years.

Art Gallery Walls are perfect for hallways…”Gallery Wall in the Hall”…

Julie Johnson and Benjie McEntyre can help you with your own Art Gallery Wall…they have resources for botanical prints or will help you choose what looks best on  your walls.

And I do have several Art Gallery walls in my home…with my own flower paintings!

Come celebrate with me.  I’ll save you a seat at the wall.

    Kathy,

Thanks for sharing all the beautiful photos of interiors using botanicals! I have always loved botanicals, but most of mine are stored in basement…maybe this will inspire me to take a look at those in a different way. Good luck to Clare with her renovation…I know it will be lovely!
Love to you, Dave and your family!

Wow. Want new house with lots of gallery wall space. Have a collection of fish prints in master bath I love.

    You are amazing, again!

    • Kathy Miller says:

Thanks Dickie! I bet the fish prints are fabulous….the important thing is that we love them and want to enjoy seeing them everyday!
I always appreciate your comments! And so happy you are painting!

  • Kathy Miller says:

Thanks Pat for your comment! I understand about storing things we no longer think work for us in our homes…and then trends change and the old can become new again. Lee Radziwill said, “I abhor the American idea of starting with a tabula rasa every few years and getting rid of everything. When I buy something, I intend to keep it forever”
I do think combining old with new, antiques with modern, makes for eclectic, personal decorating…and of course I always treasure the art…

Toby West has a beautiful shop! I love all these botanical and bird prints. I have bird prints over my bed in one of our guest rooms.

I love botanicals and birds, but don’t forget butterflies too!
